| National SkillBuild Success |

Following our success in taking the first three places at the Regional SkillBuild heat, two of our apprentices, Craig Biggins and Johnny Carter, took part in the National Final in Glasgow from the 7th to 9th of October 2009. To everyone's delight at Plunkett's, Craig came away with first prize and the title of UK National SkillBuild Champion.

SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the country for apprentices. Competing against the clock as well as the other competitors, the boys each had to complete their own individual project. The test pieces are designed to challenge the ability of the entrants to follow detailed instructions, produce accurate, neat work and be economical with materials, whilst working to strict timescales - all essential requirements of today's construction industry. This particular test piece comprised of a tight little area with recesses, borders and reveals to the walls, and falls to a gulley on the floor, all in a large format porcelain tile.
Our two guys went into the final with high hopes, but under a lot of pressure, due to the very high standards they set in the regional heat (Craig carded the highest score in the history of the competition). They needn't have worried though, as the standard of work that they produced was still of the highest order. Craig walked away with first prize, and Johnny, still only a second year apprentice, gained the experience that could be invaluable to him next year should he fancy another crack at the title.
Well done lads, we are proud to have you on the team.
