Following the successful hosting of this Summer’s Commonwealth Games aquatic events, our operatives have recently returned to Sandwell Aquatics Centre to undertake the legacy phase of the project.
The legacy phase of works sees the facility transformed from a sporting venue, prepped for international competition, to a more standard leisure centre, suited for public use.
As on the initial phase of the contract, we are undertaking a comprehensive package of works across the facilities three brand new changing areas and spa facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, the installation of specialist linear drainage channels and gullies; 1400m2 of Mapei (UK) Ltd Topcem screed and (of course) the installation of over 2400m2 of ceramic wall and floor tiles – supplied by our long-term supply chain partners Spectile Ltd.
A key difference this time around is that we have also been instructed, as part of our turn-key package, to install over 1800m2 of Marmox UK Multiboard as an intermediate substrate to brickwork walls, ahead of our installation of the wall tiles.
With the project due to run well into spring 2023, we look forward to working once again alongside our colleagues from Wates Group, and their supply chain, to finish one of the standout projects completed by P.Plunkett Tiling over recent years.
