P Plunkett Tiling Contractors Ltd recently completed the ceramic tiling package on the Morpeth Leisure Centre project for Willmott Dixon. First teaming up in April 2022, we have worked closely together for the past 11 months to produce a tiled finish to the swimming facility that we can be proud of.
Preliminary works included fixing over 2,500m2 of Marmox UK Multiboard tile backer board, to ensure the walls were plumb and ready to receive tiles. In some areas boarding was taken as high as 5M affl, up to the underside of the roof, to provide an Environmental Wall and create a sealed chlorination zone.
Also included within our package was 3,000m2 of cementitious screed, which was installed for us by our regular sub-contractors Apex Tailored Flooring Ltd. Working to exacting standards, they produced a quality surface ready for us to tile directly onto.
Following the preliminary works we commenced the tiling across various areas, including two swimming pools, a spa, multiple changing areas and an atrium Café. Altogether we installed over 95,000 tiles, all supplied by Spec-Tile and fixed using a complete Mapei system, utilising products from their ranges of screed, render, adhesive, grout, and waterproofing systems.
The project has kept quite a few of our directly employed skilled workforce and management team busy for close to a year and has seen us provide the people of Morpeth with a high quality finish to their new leisure facility – another successful project completed with Willmott Dixon.
