We are happy to confirm that phase 1 of our works at Manchester Aquatics Centre are now complete!
When we commenced works last June, the scale of work ahead of us promised quite a challenge and a test for our systems and resources! The 25-year-old building, used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, had recently been stripped out of most finishes, including all the original tiles, leaving an enormous concrete shell which we, along with main contractor Kier Group, had to make ready for the upcoming Para World Swimming Championships.
Using a range of specialist Mapei (UK) Ltd products and Marmox Multiboard systems, our skilled team were able to make good all the existing backgrounds and prepare them ready to receive some 6,500M² of new wall, floor and pool tiles, all supplied by our regular supply chain partners Spectile Ltd and CTD Tiles.
Aside from this, our package of works also included the installation of Mapei (UK) Ltd Mapeguard tanking products to the facility’s pool surround, changing village and spa, ensuring a robust system which should stand the test of time. Additionally, new pool gratings, supplied by our associates at Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, were also installed as part of an intricate redesign for the pool edges on both of the centre’s pools.
We were so proud seeing the facility return to the forefront of global swimming during the aforementioned Para World Swimming Championships earlier this summer, and welcome the challenges that phase 2 may throw our way!
