We are pleased to report that our works at Sandwell Aquatics Centre are now officially complete, following a successful PC earlier this week. After some 30 months of hard work, we are proud to have played a pivotal role in the development of the UKs latest iconic sporting venue, which will now go on to provide a long-lasting legacy for the local community in the West Midlands and beyond.
Across both phases, most of the P. Plunkett site team have played a significant role in the completion of the project; over 25 of our directly employed and highly skilled tilers and general operatives, fixed in excess of 13,800m² of ceramic tiles. A significant amount of tiling was to the facility’s three state of the art pools, but a sizeable proportion was installed within the numerous changing areas and spa facilities, vast pool surround, storage and staff areas and the entrance foyer area. In addition to this, our squads also installed over 1,800m² of Marmox Multiboard tilebacker board, as well as many thousands of square metres of Mapei (UK) Ltd specialist Mapeguard waterproofing system; leaving behind a high-quality finish which should stand the test of time.
Beyond this, key members of the Plunkett supply chain also rendered the inside of each of the three pool tanks, installed over 6,000m² of Mapei (UK) Ltd Topcem screed, fitted all linear drainage across the project and completed the thousands of metres of Arbokol sealant pointing.
During our time on site, we were proud to be recognised by Main Contractor Wates Group, as we were awarded subcontractor of the year for the Midlands Region- no mean feat given the quality of the supply chain on the project.
A special thanks must go out to Managing Director Steven Allsopp for leading the project from the top, Mark Henderson for looking after items commercially, and Andrew Todd for supervising the works across both phases.
Last but not least, we would like to recognise the lads on site; not only did you complete the project to the highest of standards, but you all did so working in the safest possible manner; you were approachable and collaborative and are a testament to the company, thank you and well done all.
